Greetings and solidarity from the Melbourne, Australia May Day 2022.
Global capitalism is in acute crisis and can no longer escape or overcome its crisis of overproduction and its’ massive and growing debt.
Overproduction is creating mass unemployment across the globe, and at the same time overproduction is being intensified by the lowering of purchasing power due to attacks on workers’ wages and other incomes.
Capitalism’s reliance on massive debt is being used as an excuse to further attack workers’ wages and conditions, and reduce social payments.
Workers’ wages, conditions and basic rights are under attack in ways unseen since the great depression.
Action to win the right to strike, to picket, to assemble, to organise, without interference from the state, is well overdue and must be a key objective in the period ahead.
It is very likely that the right to strike and other rights fundamental to the working class will, in the final analysis, only be won by strike action, and the national campaign must be used to prepare for that. Unless those rights are won workers’ wages, conditions and rights will continue to be savagely eroded.
According to United Nations Agencies there are over 70 million people in the world who are refugees and asylum seekers, displaced from their homes and countries by war, oppression and economic crisis.
They are almost universally mistreated and exploited.
At May Day we must once again demand that this mistreatment end and that nations, including Australia, welcome them, support them, and unite with them.
The Aboriginal people of Australia are still being treated as second class citizens in their own land. We again declare our support for the sovereignty, proper funding and fair treatment of the first nation people.
Retirement pensions and conditions, other social security funding and conditions and the funding of peoples’ needs generally are under severe attack or are threatened.
There are over 3 million people in Australia living on or below a very austere poverty line. 17% of those are children.
We demand the adequate funding of workers on retirement pensions and other social security pensions, adequate spending on peoples’ needs, and we reject out of hand the policies of so called “austerity”, cut backs and reductions in the funding of people’s services.
Millions of children, women and men are being maimed and slaughtered by imperialist aggression and wars waged for profit, for resources, and for spheres of influence in various parts of the globe.
At May Day we reaffirm our opposition to imperialist wars of aggression including the Australian Government’s involvement of Australia in those wars.
Specifically in recent times we condemn the U.S. and Australian support for aggression in Syria, in Yemen, in Afghanistan, and the previous illegal overthrow of governments in Libya, Iraq and the war mongering on the Korean Peninsula and other places.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms the vicious murder of the Palestinians, who are protesting against the on- going occupation of their historical land, and who are being shot down in cold blood by Zionism, supported by the U.S and its’ NATO allies.
We also condemn the fascist behaviour of Filipino President Duterte, including the shooting down of the Filipino people in cold blood, and we condemn the fascist government of Turkey for its’ oppression of the Kurdish and other peoples in Turkey, and its’ aggression in Syria, in order to attack the Kurdish people fighting for a peaceful and independent homeland.
We demand the U.S keep its’ hands off Latin America, including keeping out of the internal affairs of Venezuela and Cuba and we reject out of hand the war like actions of the U.S. which they call “sanctions”. Also we condemn the vicious actions of the Myanmar military and we demand democracy for the courageous Myanmar people.
Very close to home we condemn the brutal Indonesian oppression and violence against the people of West Papua and reaffirm our support for their demands for self- determination and independence.
We condemn the imperialist war in Ukraine, including the key role played by U.S. imperialism and its military puppet NATO, in provoking the war. We call out the vicious and misleading propaganda which is designed to build support for such wars. We demand an immediate end to this war and for URGENT negotiations to ensure peace with justice for the Ukraine and Russian people.
We say all power to the millions of people mobilising and demonstrating across the globe for democracy, fair treatment and liberation. We demand that the people of all lands receive the best possible treatment and Health services in the face of the global pandemic.
At May Day 2022, we reaffirm and re double our efforts to fight for a peaceful world, for a world in which the working people and other exploited people control production and the wealth produced, instead of its control by the capitalists, the wealthy, so that finally, war, poverty, exploitation, oppression and environmental destruction can be ended forever.
In Australia, we must defeat the Morrison Government, the worst Federal Government in living memory.
Long live national and international solidarity
Long live international workers day May Day
Long live socialism and real democracy.
